Back to the Motherland
Back to the Motherland is a summer exposure program wherein organizers and/or members of GABRIELA-USA organization are able to go to the Philippines to learn about the concrete conditions and issues of Filipino women and integrate with GABRIELA organizers and communities. Through this program, members of GABRIELA-USA are able to understand the significance of the Filipino people’s struggle for genuine change.
Diwang Pinay (“Spirit of the Filipina”) is an annual performance and silent auction showcasing Filipina/ Filipina-American performers, writers, and artists.Â Diwang Pinay promotes the work of Pinay artists everywhere and represents the expanding cultural backbone of the Filipina diaspora. This event is one of the few venues solely dedicated to providing Filipinas and Filipina-Americans a platform to display their triumphs and struggles through art, linking history to the narrative of today’s Pinay.
Pinay Stories is a national cultural arts project that centers on collecting creative efforts of Filipino women in the United States reflecting their life stories, journeys and current lives. In gathering creative accounts of Filipino women’s lives, we also aim to gather a broad sweeping social investigation of the different issues and conditions of Filipino women in the US. This project is taken up by each member organization in their own capacity and creative style through zine, blog, event, etc.
